Phonics Kindergarten
My daughter just turned 4 a couple months ago…what should she be doing as far as reading and recognition go?
She knows her name when she sees it, knows how to spell it and knows how to write it. She knows letters MOST of the time, but sometimes forgets. Same with numbers. She can count to about 20 without help. Should I be starting phonics with her and getting her to recognize what letters make what sounds so she can start to sound out words OR is this something that happens in kindergarten? Other than that, she’s a very well-versed little girl and carries on relevant conversatations with people and her reasoning skills are excellent in my opinion.
Just want to make sure she’s on track. Her teacher seems to think so, but I’m just wanting to hear from other parents of kids her age. Thanks!
